ENHANCE UNDERSTANDING

Three goals for impact in 2022

Iraqis have been undergoing tremendous change as they work for a better future, and EPIC is adapting along with them. In 2022, we will sharply focus on three program areas: peace and recovery, human rights and governance, and responding to the effects of climate change.

Peace: Recovering after conflict

Recovery is not only about buildings and infrastructure. Violence also causes mental and emotional destruction, and tears the social fabric of a community that allows a society to thrive.

After a successful pilot project in Sinjar that trained Iraqi changemakers in social media production and change strategy, we are expanding our reach to more communities across northern Iraq still struggling with the legacy of violence. Your support is crucial.

Rights: Improving governance

We have two advantages that make us effective supporters of Iraqis’ political reform efforts. One is our strong relationships with grassroots leaders. Our recent Tishreen Report provides a ground-level view inside the Tishreen (“October”) protest movement that is hard to find elsewhere.

The other is our long-standing presence in Washington, DC. From our weekly Iraq Security and Humanitarian Monitor (ISHM) reports to our active relationships with policymakers, we help Iraqis communicate their goals in the U.S. and internationally.

Climate: Adapting to change

Climate change means shortages of basic supplies, inflation of groceries and necessities, fewer and lower-paying jobs, and unreliable access to medical care for an increasing number of health problems, among other effects.

Iraqi champions of climate action like Nabil Musa of @WaterkeepersIQ and Salman Khairallah of @HumatDijlah are raising awareness about climate change, organizing to save Iraq’s life-giving rivers, and advocating practical solutions to increasing hardships. Supporting these leaders to build community resilience to climate impacts will be a core pillar of our programming in 2022, with your help.
