Update on our Campaign for #IraqCOVIDRelief

30K for Iraq doctor campaign flyer

Earlier this month, we kicked off our #IraqCOVIDRelief fundraiser that will aid two hospitals fighting the spread of COVID-19 in Mosul, Iraq. As of today, we are over 20% of the way towards our $30,000 goal!

And it gets better. Thanks to two generous supporters, right now all donations will be matched dollar for dollar. So if you have not yet donated, visit our Facebook fundraiser and invite your friends, family and network to join you in doubling your impact for Iraqi hospitals and health workers. Facebook is able to handle donations in all currencies and currently charged no processing fees to charities like EPIC. Unable to donate? Use our #IraqCOVIDRelief Media Kit to amplify the fundraising campaign on your favorite social sites to help raise awareness and donations!

To underscore the urgency, here’s what you need to know about the impact of the coronavirus in Iraq.

As of today, Iraq has more than 322,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, and the number is increasing rapidly. In fact, the World Health Organization is now reporting that Iraq has one of the highest rates of new infections in the world. In just the past 2 weeks alone, more than 60,000 people in Iraq have contracted the virus.

The country’s weak health care system is already struggling to keep up with the rapidly growing numbers of patients, and hospitals are facing critical shortages of supplies.

To make matters worse, Iraqi health care workers are twice as likely to contract COVID-19 as the general population. While the country already has far fewer doctors and health workers than other countries. For example, here in the U.S., we have nearly four times as many doctors per 1,000 people than in Iraq.

Poor quality testing kits and limited number of sample processing labs means delays in identifying who’s infected and who’s recovered, resulting in additional demands on desperately needed hospital beds and delays in tracking and containing the virus. The pandemic is also leading to other problems, from increased incidents of gender-based violence to critical food shortages at camps for displaced families.

Here’s how you can help. By making a donation today and inviting others to join you, we can mobilize the resources and technical assistance that two hospitals in Mosul urgently need. So donate and share #IraqCOVIDRelief with friends and family today.

Join us now and double your impact for Iraqi hospitals and health workers fighting to stay safe and save lives!
