I am humbled and honored to connect with EPIC today as the newest, and possibly youngest, member of EPIC’s Board of Directors.

In my view, EPIC’s work has never been more important to breaking the cycle of violence in Iraq, which is why I’m eager to reconnect with supporters like you.

Here’s a little bit about me. I was born and raised in Baghdad and left Iraq in late 2006 amidst the sectarian civil war. I sought refuge in Syria where I lived for nearly two years, and then came to the United States as a student to finish my undergraduate studies at Union College in upstate New York.

I started at EPIC as an intern in 2013 and then joined the staff from 2014 to 2016, supporting programs and day to day operations. Among my most meaningful experiences at EPIC was being a part of Soccer Salam, a team of charities led by EPIC that successfully delivered emergency humanitarian aid to more than 60,000 children and families fleeing ISIS.

Joining EPIC’s Board of Directors means a lot because EPIC’s mission and work are very personal to me. Today, more than ever, the people of Iraq not only need, but deserve a break, and an opportunity to get back on their feet.

I believe that together we can make that happen.
